How do I tether my Cruz to my computer?
Below are the possible methods of transferring files to and from your Cruz device.
METHOD #1: Tether via USB to your PC
(Note: While tethered, you cannot use your Cruz to access the internal or external SD cards).
A.) Turn on your Cruz and connect a mini USB cable (some Cruz devices require micro USB cable) to the Cruz device and the other end to your PC.
FOR ADVANCED USERS: In your Windows Device Manager, your device's storage areas will detect as "Android UMS Composite USB Device" or "USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE" under the Disk Drives hardware type. This is normal. (It may also appear as "<NULL><NULL> USB DEVICE". This also is normal.)
B.) Slide the notification panel down and tap the alert that reads, "USB Connected - Select to copy files to/from your computer", then tap Mount (for Android 2.0) or Turn on USB Storage (for Android 2.2x).
• After doing this, the alert should change to "Turn off USB storage ... ". This is the normal appearance when tethered.
• Your internal and external storage devices will now appear within Windows with new drive letters assigned. The Autoplay feature of Windows may open asking you what you want to do with the media. Click Open Folders to view files.
C.) You may now copy files to and from the device as needed. You may create folders here to organize content, or you may place content in existing folders for use my the application that created the folder.
D.) When you are done with file management tasks, you may use the Windows application "Safely Remove Hardware" to unmount the Cruz USB drives. There is no need to tap the alert on the alert panel that reads, "Turn off USB storage - Select to turn off USB storage".
You may now disconnect your USB cable from your Cruz device. Cruz access to the SD cards returns.
METHOD #2: Transfer files from PC to Cruz using external SD card
A.) Insert SD card into your PC's memory card reader.
B.) The Autoplay feature of Windows may open asking you what you want to do with the media. Click Open Folders to view files.
C.) Create folders on and transfer files to the SD card as desired.
D.) Eject the SD card and insert it into your Cruz for access with the appropriate app.
METHOD #3: Transfer files from external SD card to internal micro SD card
(Applies to Reader R101, R102, R103 only).
A.) Insert external SD card and open ASTRO.
B.) Navigate with the up arrow to the root of the device and tap the sdcard1 directory icon to access your card.
C.) Select the "Multi" button on the menu bar, then tap each file you want to move to your Cruz device. You know the file is selected when the file name is highlighted.
D.) Select the "Move" button on the menu bar, then tap the Up button on the menu bar to move up one level, then tap the sdcard directory icon to access your internal SD card and select the "Paste" button on the menu bar
METHOD #4:
Use email or a 3rd Party app that allows for file management via WiFi.
